UNC Asheville Continues Philosophy Lecture Series October 3Keya Maitra, UNC Asheville assistant professor of philosophy, will continue UNC Asheville’s annual philosophy lecture series with a talk discussing Hilary Putnam’s quote, “We aren’t brains in a vat.” The talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at UNC Asheville’s Kellogg Center, 11 Broyles Rd., Hendersonville. An open discussion will follow her talk. The event is open to the public. A donation of $5 will be suggested at the door. A specialist in Indian philosophy, philosophy of mind and philosophy of language, Maitra published her first book, “On Putnam,” in 2002. She holds doctorates in philosophy from the University of Connecticut and the University of Hyderabad in India. Maitra is a member of the Indian Philosophical Society, the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy and the Association for Asian Studies. The program is part of a year-long, nine-part series co-sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Philosophy Department and the Institute for Applied Philosophy. The series, “Great Quotes,” is designed to foster discussion of philosophically significant issues surrounding well-known quotations. For driving directions, call the Kellogg Center at 828/890-2821.
