UNC Asheville Continues Philosophy Lecture Series March 14Brian Butler, UNC Asheville associate professor of philosophy, will continue UNC Asheville’s annual philosophy lecture series with a talk discussing renowned philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s quote “Our language [is] an ancient city.” The talk will be held at7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at UNC Asheville’s Kellogg Center, 11 Broyles Rd., Hendersonville. An open discussion will follow his talk. The event is open to the public. A donation of $5 will be suggested at the door. Considered one of the most influential 20th century philosophers, Wittgenstein contributed several ground-breaking works to modern philosophy. He focused primarily on the foundations of logic and the philosophy of mathematics, language and the mind. Butler holds a doctorate in philosophy and a master of fine arts degree in painting from Claremont Graduate University. He also holds a juris doctorate from the University of Chicago. The author of numerous articles and reviews, his interests include American pragmatism, jurisprudence, the philosophical foundations and implications of human rights, the aesthetics and philosophy of art and sociopolitical philosophy. The program is part of a year-long, nine-part series co-sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Philosophy Department and the Institute for Applied Philosophy.
