UNC Asheville to Offer On-line Lateral Entry Teaching CourseUNC Asheville will host a distance learning course designed for lateral entry teachers this spring. The three-credit hour course, “Methods and Management of Teaching in the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers,” will be offered via teleconference and the Internet. Teleconference locations will be on the UNC Asheville campus, Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine and Murphy High School’s Cyber Campus. Classes will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, from March 16 to May 11. The course is designed for teachers who have their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center. The course will focus on best practices as described by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, classroom management and assessment. Tuition is $207.06 plus a $20 non-refundable application fee. In addition, students must have a computer with Microsoft Word and Internet access.
