UNC Asheville's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for KidsSaturdays are super this fall at UNC Asheville! Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore chemistry, chess, cartooning, creative writing and much more at UNC Asheville’s 20th annual Super Saturday Program beginning October 14. The program has helped more than 12,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their special interests through hands-on learning on the UNC Asheville campus. Some 37 unique courses are open for registration. Exciting new course this fall include acting, the history and culture of China, and puppetry. In addition, young scientists can take courses in dinosaurs, physics or veterinary science. Budding performers can study drumming, Irish step dance, musical theatre movement and stage combat. Students interested in becoming global citizens will enjoy classes in French conversation, Egyptology or Tamashii martial arts. Several University faculty members and highly qualified upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers and other professionals. Super Saturday courses meet 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays between October 14-November 18. All students are welcome to apply; the registration deadline is October 9. Tuition is $65 for each course. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. The scholarship application deadline is September 15.
