N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Hosts "The Elderquest" Film and Book SeriesThanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement will offer “The Elderquest,” a national film and book series exploring the search for meaning by today’s older adults. The free eight-week program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 22 at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. “The Elderquest” begins with an introductory session featuring film clips and a narrative on “Eight Ways to Look at an Elderquest.” During the series, six films about older heroes and heroines who cast new light on the rapidly changing meaning of aging will be screened. These include such classics as “Wild Strawberries,” “The Trip to Bountiful,” “The Straight Story,” “Central Station” and “About Schmidt.” Two novels will also be discussed: “Praisesong for the Widow” by Paule Marshall and Ethan Canin’s “Carry Me Across the Water.” Participants are required to purchase both books. The program is free and open to the public but registration is required. For more information or to sign up, call the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement at 828/251-6140. Media Contacts:
