UNC Asheville to Host Second Annual Workplace Diversity PanelThe second annual “Diversity in the Workplace: Finding a Common Ground,” panel presentation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union, Mountain Suites. A panel of community leaders will discuss the importance of diversity related to workplace awareness. Students will have the opportunity to network with the panelists following the presentation. Panelists are Brenda Mills, City of Asheville minority business program coordinator; Francisco Risso, WNC Workers Center director; Holly Boswell, co-founder of Phoenix Transgender Support; LaVoy Spooner, area director for corporate and external affairs at Bell South; and a representative from the Cherokee Indian Hospital. The panelists will draw from their own experiences in overcoming challenges related to diversity. The event is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Career Center, Academic Affairs, Student Activities and Integrative Learning, Multicultural Student Programs, The Center for Diversity Education, The Office of Cultural and Special Events, and several student organizations including The Black Student Association, Tribe, Alliance, HOLA, and Student Diversity Alliance.
