Noted Poet Rick Campbell to Speak, Give Reading at UNC AshevilleUNC Asheville will host two special events with noted poet and novelist Rick Campbell on Thursday, Feb. 2. Campbell will discuss publishing a first book of poetry as well as publishing with independent literary presses at 4:30 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, room 221. He will give a reading and discussion of recent work at 7:30 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Both events are free and open to the public. A prolific writer, Campbell released his latest book of poetry, “The Traveler’s Companion,” in 2004. His first full-length book, “Setting the World in Order,” received the Walt McDonald Prize. His poems and essays have appeared in The Georgia Review, The Missouri Review, Southern Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner and other journals. He received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize and two fellowships from the Florida Art Council. He is the director of Anhinga Press and the Anhinga Prize for Poetry. Campbell currently teaches English at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, where he lives with his family. Campbell’s visit is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Creative Writing Program, Lit Club and Cultural & Special Events Committee.
