UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder to Appear on UNC-TV's

Chancellor Anne Ponder discusses the future of UNC Asheville, the role of the liberal arts and other topics with William Friday on UNC-TV’s “North Carolina People” set to air at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. Chancellor Ponder and Mr. Friday also explore some of UNC Asheville’s most notable programs, including the Teaching Fellows and the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement.
Ponder, an Asheville native, was elected the sixth Chancellor of UNC Asheville in May 2005 and took office the following October 1. She comes to UNC Asheville from Colby-Sawyer College, a private liberal arts college in New London, N.H., where she served as president for ten years. Ponder attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in English.
Since the 1971 debut of “North Carolina People,” William Friday has interviewed more than 1,500 of the Tar Heel State’s best thinkers, writers, politicians, educators, athletes, entertainers and other newsmakers. One of the most highly esteemed North Carolinians, many also know Mr. Friday from his 30 years as president of the University of North Carolina system. During his tenure he helped establish North Carolina as home to one of the preeminent university systems in the country.
