UNC Asheville's Masters of Liberal Arts Program Announces Spring ClassesSeveral of UNC Asheville’s award-winning professors will soon bring their teaching skills to graduate students. The University’s Masters of Liberal Arts program will offer seven interdisciplinary courses by these noted professors during the spring semester. UNC Asheville’s Masters of Liberal Arts (MLA) program is an interdisciplinary, part-time program focuses on the theme of “The Human Condition.” The program explores human nature, value and quality of life through humanities, arts, and natural and social sciences. The degree is geared toward students interested in gaining personal enrichment and intellectual development, not professional or academic advancement. MLA Program courses scheduled for this spring are “100% Chance of Poetry: An MLA Poetry Workshop” taught by Richard Chess; “Human Rights and International Politics” and “Individual Rights and Civil Liberties” taught by Mark Gibney; “The Development of Astronomy and Cosmology” taught by Randy Booker; “Contemporary Issues” taught by Bill Sabo; “Wittgenstein: Life and Language” taught by Brian Butler; and “The Nature of Scholarly Inquiry” taught by Melissa Burchard. All classes will meet on the UNC Asheville campus in the evenings to accommodate the schedules of working students. Tuition and fees are based on credit hours. The spring semester admission deadline for degree-seeking students is November 15; non-degree seeking students can apply any time. Classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007. For more information, call UNC Asheville’s MLA Program at 828/250-2399 or click on www.unca.edu/mla. Media Contacts:
