The 2006 UNC Asheville Distinguished Staff Member of the Year award was recently presented to Mike Honeycutt, Ramsey Library computing consultant. The annual award, based in part on faculty and staff nominations, is given to a staff member who has gone beyond his or her job and who significantly contributes to the campus community.

Honeycutt was a founding member and chair of the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Committee (CSAC) and developed the CSAC Scholarship, given annually to two UNC Asheville students. He also helped plan and implement the annual “Move-In Day,” which brings together more than 100 staff and faculty volunteers to assist students and their families with moving into the residence halls each fall.

Honeycutt, son of Scovel and Aretha Honeycutt of Asheville and a 1980 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, has worked at UNC Asheville for 23 years. He is considered “one of the most respected, admired and well-liked employees on campus,” and often “goes above and beyond to serve UNC Asheville with a smile,” according to nomination letters.
