Hitch up that one-horse open
sleigh and head over to UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theatre for the
“Holiday Spectacular! Spectacular!” UNC Asheville’s drama students
will transform the outside of the theater into a winter wonderland
for the entire family with a unique light and sound show. The
“Holiday Spectacular! Spectacular!” will be held from 7-9 p.m.
November 30-December 3 and December 7-10. The event is open to the
public; concessions will be sold and donations will be accepted.
The “Holiday Spectacular! Spectacular!” is sponsored by UNC
Asheville’s student chapter of the United States Institute of
Theatre Technology (USITT). Proceeds will benefit the group’s trip
to the national conference next year to compete in the Tech
Olympics. This competition tests the speed and accuracy of backstage
skills -- light hanging, properties shift, quick costume change,
cut/saw/nail, and crosby and thimble, where competitors rig cable to
hold scenery or people. The UNC Asheville USITT student chapter is
the longest continuing in the United States and consistently wins
top honors at the Tech Olympics, including the National Title in
2003, 2000 and 1996.
