UNC Asheville Offers Online Education Course for Lateral Entry Middle School TeachersUNC Asheville will offer an online education course for lateral entry middle school teachers as part of the University’s regular summer curriculum. The 300-level class will be conducted completely online from July 10-August 30. Students will earn three credit hours toward licensure. “Middle School Principals and Practices for Lateral Entry Teachers” is designed for those who have had their own classrooms and are seeking alternative licensing through the Regional Licensing Center. The course will emphasize the developmental goals of the curriculum and methods of instruction appropriate for middle-grade students; assessment of student learning; and materials appropriate for middle school students. This online course is designed to teach the theory and components of middle-level education as well as introduce students to the many resources that are available. To complete the course, students will be required to interview with school personnel, complete selected readings and respond via online modules and engage in a course project. In-state tuition is $207.06 and out-of-state tuition is $1,199.79. There is a $20 non-refundable application fee for new students.
