UNC Asheville Hosts Textile Exhibit by Asheville Artist Lynne Caldwell

“Shibori,” an exhibition of textiles by Asheville fiber artist Lynne Caldwell, will be on view July 28-August 25 at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Gallery. The exhibit features textiles made with the Japanese shibori technique in which fabric is shaped, bound and dyed, as well as the ikat technique, a similar process for dyeing yarn. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 28, in the gallery.

Caldwell, an experienced fiber artist, is the author of “Shibori: A Beginner’s Guide to Creating Color and Texture on Fabric” (Lark Books, 2006). She holds master’s degree in fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design and has taught workshops at The Textile Museum and Smithsonian Institution. A former professor at the North Carolina State University School of Design, Caldwell now teaches in UNC Asheville’s Arts and Ideas Program.

The Highsmith University Union Gallery is open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays but hours are subject to change. For more information, call UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union at 828/232-5000.
