UNC Asheville to Host Talk on Terrorism and Economic PrinciplesUNC Asheville will host a talk on “Rational Terrorists: How Terrorist Organizations Employ Economic Principles to Conduct Their Beastly Business” by Augusta State University Economics Professor Jurgen Brauer. He will speak at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in UNC Asheville’s Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. The event is free and open to the public. A professor, columnist and commentator, Brauer conducts research in the fields of peace and conflict resolution, military affairs and economic development. He has written a number of books, including “Arms Trade and Economic Development” (Routledge, 2004; with Paul Dunne) and “The Economics of Regional Security” (Harwood, 2000; with Keith Hartley). Brauer, a former Peace Fellow of the United States Institute of Peace, has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the United Nations, NATO, the U.S. National Defense University and the City of New York.
