UNC Asheville to Host Presentation by Ballet Warraba

UNC Asheville will host a lecture and demonstration by acclaimed dance company Ballet Warraba at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The presentation will focus on the music, dance and griot tradition of West African culture. A question-and-answer session will follow the demonstration. The event is free and open to the public.

Ballet Warraba, an international dance company, performs in the tradition of African ballet to educate American audiences about West African culture. Like western ballet, African ballet tells stories using dance and music in a theatrical setting. Ballet Warraba incorporates traditional West African music, dance, song, and costumes in their performances.
