UNC Asheville's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids
Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have
an opportunity to explore chess, Irish step dance, chemistry, drama and
much more at UNC Asheville’s 20th annual Super Saturday Program
beginning March 5. The program has helped more than 12,000 children from
across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on
learning on the UNC Asheville campus.
Some 34 unique courses are open for registration. Young artists can
create masks, study calligraphy, try creative writing, build pottery or
make puppets. Up-and-coming explorers can investigate courses on
continents, international dance, ancient Greece, French conversation,
Egypt or martial arts. Students who love science and technology can
enroll in classes on math, model rocketry, physics, multimedia
presentations and Web-page design.
Several University faculty members and upper-level students teach Super
Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers,
educators and other professionals.
Super Saturday courses meet 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays between March 5-April
9. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $65 for each course.
Deadline to apply is Friday,
Feb. 25. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available; the
scholarship deadline is February 14.
