N.C. Center for Creative Retirement Offers Free Computer Literacy ClassesRegistration is now open for the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement free computer literacy classes for underserved adults ages 50 and over. Funded through a grant from Smith Barney, the classes are designed to reach local low-income and minority seniors. Space is limited. Application deadline is March 4. Four courses are available this session. Beginner classes meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Mondays or 2:30-4:30 on Wednesdays. Advanced beginner classes meet from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Mondays or 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Each class meets once a week for six weeks. The classes will meet in the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus beginning the week of March 21. To date, more than 400 seniors have participated in nine computer literacy courses. Classes are taught by skilled UNC Asheville undergraduates who are trained and supervised by campus experts. Participants will learn basic computer skills, how to use e-mail and the Internet. They will also find out how to access free public computers in the area. Local Dial-A-Ride bus service is available to the Reuter Center.
