UNC Asheville to Host Uruguayan Music and Dance Troupe;
Los Gauchos de Roldán to Perform October 21

UNC Asheville will host a Uruguayan music concert by acclaimed band Los Gauchos de Roldán at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Alumni Hall. The band will perform authentic music and dance from the rural areas of Uruguay. The event is free and open to the public.

Los Gauchos de Roldán is comprised of award-winning button accordionist Walter Roldán, two guitarists and two dancers. In their concert, the band will demonstrate the various music and dances found in Uruguay and neighboring countries Brazil and Argentina. Their repertoire includes traditional music based in the rhythms and melodies brought to Uruguay in the 19th century by European immigrants and adapted by natives.

The event is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Multicultural Student Programs in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
