UNC Asheville Music Department Wraps Up Concert SeasonUNC Asheville’s Music Department will wrap up the 2004-05 concert season with four concerts. Events are free and open to the public. The Second Annual Invitation Jazz Festival will be held Saturday, April 9, in Lipinsky Auditorium. University and high school jazz ensembles will perform for clinicians throughout the day. These performances and clinics are free and open to the public. The UNC Asheville Jazz Lab Band will perform a formal concert at 5 p.m. in Lipinsky Auditorium. The band will be joined by guest artist, trombonist Paul McKee. The concert will include compositions by Benny Moten, Wayne Shorter and arrangements by McKee. Admission for the concert is $5 at the door. UNC Asheville’s University Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Scholarship String Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. The program will include classical and contemporary sacred choral music accompanied on organ by Andrew Davis, Basilica of St. Lawrence’s organist. The groups will perform under the direction of Frances T. Sinclair, Inez Redman and Elsa O’Farrell. Donations will be accepted. UNC Asheville’s Jazz Combos will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Featured compositions include music by George Gershwin, Mongo Santamaria and Duke Ellington. Admission is $5 at the door. For the final concerts of the season, the Concert Band, University Singers, String Ensemble and String Quartet will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.
