UNC Asheville Celebrates Homecoming February 14-19

UNC Asheville will hold its week-long Homecoming 2005 celebration beginning February 14. Special events range from the annual Homecoming Parade and basketball games to concerts by folksinger Beth Wood and the Reggie Wayne Morris Trio blues group.

A number of Homecoming 2005 events are open to the public. Events are free unless otherwise indicated. They are as follows:

** February 14 – Blues group the Reggie Wayne Morris Trio will perform at 8 p.m. in the Highsmith University Union Cafe. Based in Baltimore, the trio has been a featured performer at the Baltimore Blues Festival for several years, a favorite on the Mid-Atlantic club circuit and has toured Italy and France.

** February 18 – The ninth annual UNC Asheville Homecoming Parade rolls along University Heights at 4 p.m. A pep rally will follow outside the Justice Center.

** February 18 – The men’s basketball team will take on Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. in the Justice Center. General admission is $6. The Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime.

** February 19 – The women’s basketball team will face off against High Point at 2 p.m. in the Justice Center. General admission is $3.

** February 19 – Folksinger Beth Wood will take center stage at 5 p.m. in the Highsmith University Union Café. A native of Lubbock, Texas, Wood studied music at Brevard College and has performed at Bele Chere. She has released five independent CDs and has shared the stage with many artists, including Shawn Colvin, John Gorka and Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls.

** February 19 -- The annual UNC Asheville Alumni Art Exhibition opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Highsmith University Union Gallery. More than 40 alumni artists, who graduated between 1972-2004, will exhibit works.

A special events package for University alumni is available for $12 and includes a social hour on Friday evening and a Saturday tailgate barbecue lunch. For more information about the alumni package, call UNC Asheville's Alumni Office at 828/251-6512.
