UNC Asheville’s Atmospheric Sciences Department
will host a talk on last year’s
record -setting hurricane season by Christopher Hennon, a National
Hurricane Center research scientist, at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 27,
in UNC Asheville’s Robinson Hall room 125. The event is free and open to
the public.
In his talk, Hennon will discuss the operations of the National Hurricane Center and the events of the 2004 hurricane season. The 2004 storm season brought tropical storms and hurricanes in Florida as well as torrential rains and high winds in Western North Carolina. Hennon will also discuss the upward trend of tropical cyclone formations in the Atlantic.
Hennon’s recent work includes developing software and researching cloud remote sensing algorithms, and he is currently working on a statistical model for predicting tropical cyclone development in the Atlantic basin. In June, Hennon will join UNC Asheville’s Atmospheric Sciences Department as an assistant professor.
For more information, call Alex Huang, UNC Asheville Atmospheric Sciences Department Chair, at 828/232-5157.
