UNC Asheville to Host Talk on Religious and Patriarchal Language and Image
UNC Asheville will host a talk by Sara Evans, distinguished McKnight Professor of History at the University of Minnesota, on “In the Image of God: Exploring Religious and Patriarchal Language and Image” from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in UNC Asheville’s Owen Conference Center. Evans’ talk will focus on the history of religious language and the women who challenged that verbiage in order to claim their right to speak. Evans has taught women’s history at the University of Minnesota since 1976. Her work focuses on the history of feminism in the 20th century from the perspectives of social movement and policy. She is the author of five books, including her most recent, “Tidal Wave: How Women Changed America at Century’s End.” The talk is co-sponsored by Holy Ground and the UNC Asheville Women’s Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies programs. The talk is open to the public. A donation of $10 will be suggested at the door. For more information or to make reservations, call Holy Ground at 828/236-0222 or e-mail holyground1@bellsouth.net.
