Naturalist, Storyteller Doug Elliott to Bring Wisdom of the Woods to UNC Asheville's Reuter Center
Whether he’s singing about catfish, pontificating on possums, or extolling the virtues of dandelions, naturalist and noted storyteller Doug Elliott entertains audiences with traditional Appalachian stories and songs. He will bring his performance of “Woodslore and Wildwoods Wisdom” to UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. Tickets are $12. In his performance, Elliott will highlight the human relationship with nature through a medley of stories, songs and lore about animals, plants and people of the Southern Appalachians. Laced with natural history facts and first-person narratives, Elliott’s performance will explore and celebrate the diversity of humanity and nature. A naturalist, herbalist, storyteller, basket-maker and award-winning harmonica player, Elliott has performed at festivals, museums and schools worldwide. He has been a featured storyteller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tenn., and has conducted workshops and programs at the American Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Institution. Elliott has published a number of articles for regional and national magazines, is the author of four books and has produced a number of award-winning recordings of stories and songs. The event is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Naturalist Program, an educational program of the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement.
