UNC Asheville Hosts Exhibition by Noted Encaustic Painter Kristy Deetz;

“Enfolding Surface and Silence,” an exhibition of
encaustic paintings by visiting artist Kristy Deetz, will be on view at
UNC Asheville’s University Gallery through February 8. The exhibition is
free and open to the public.
The artist will be on campus for a series of events on Friday, Jan. 28.
She will give a public slide lecture at 5:30 p.m. in Owen Hall room 202.
Deetz will give a gallery talk at
6:30 p.m. and a reception for the artist will be held from 7-8 p.m.,
both in the gallery.
Deetz is noted for encaustic and oil paintings on large wood panels.
Recent works have featured drapery, fruit and texts in a variety of
languages. She has exhibited widely for more than 20 years. In 2004,
Deetz was involved in nine shows across the nation. Deetz, who holds a
master’s of fine arts from Ohio State University, is associate professor
of art at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Located on the first floor in Owen Hall, UNC Asheville’s University
Gallery is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays. Admission is free. For more
