UNC Asheville Hosts 38th Annual Juried Student Art ExhibitionThe UNC Asheville Art Department will host its 38th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition April 8-22 in UNC Asheville’s University Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. Art curator Mark Linga will serve as juror. The show is free and open to the public. An opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the gallery. During the reception, Linga will present awards in seven categories, including sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, photography and mixed media. Prizes will be given to first, second, and third-place winners as well as honorable mention awards. Scholarships will also be presented. In conjunction with the show, Linga will give a free slide lecture at 5 p.m. Friday, April 8, in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Swannanoa Room. Linga is the assistant curator of education at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, located in Winston-Salem. At SECCA, he has developed educational programs for audiences of all ages, including many “Artist and the Community” residency projects. Linga most recently co-curated the exhibit “Drawn and Quartered,” which examined the medium of drawing through the work of five contemporary artists. He is a founding member and board president of Project Space 211, an alternative music and arts venue in Winston-Salem. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays. Admission is free.
