UNC Asheville’s 2004-05 Writers at Home Series continues with readings by Jessica Keener and Glenis Redmond at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of Western North Carolina writers and UNC Asheville. The event is free and open to the public.

Keener is the author of a variety of stories that have appeared in such literary publications as “Sundog: Southeast Review,” “Northwest Corridor” and “The Chariton Review.” Her story, “Recovery,” won Redbook’s second prize in fiction and is now a chapter in her novel, “Body Chemistry.” Keener co-authored “Time to Make Donuts” with the founder of Dunkin’ Donuts, and subsequently spoke on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.” She writes regularly for The Boston Globe Magazine and other national magazines. She is on the review board for “Ploughshares” and “Agni” literary magazines.

Redmond performs original poetry and teaches at conferences, schools and universities nationwide. Her tours include the Kennedy Center, performing arts centers such as Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Peace Center, and school systems across the United States. Redmond’s most recent publications include Stanford University’s “Black Arts Quarterly,” Warren Wilson College’s “Heartstone,” Smith College’s “Meridians,” North Carolina State University’s “Obsidian III,” and the Harlem journal “African Voices.” Her work is featured on the award-winning video “Mama’s Magic” and a poetry and educational compact disc entitled “Glenis on Poetry.” She is the author of the full-length book “Backbone” and numerous chapter books for adults and children.
