UNC Asheville Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity to Hold Hurricane Relief
Fundraiser;
"Running of the OXes" to Benefit the American Red Cross
The UNC Asheville and Mars Hill College chapters of
Theta Chi fraternity have joined forces to hold “The Running of the OXes,”
a benefit for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief fund.
Brothers from the two schools will run a 19-mile relay carrying a
football between the two campuses beginning at noon Saturday, Sept. 17,
at Mars Hill College. The relay will wrap up around 3 p.m. at Reed Plaza
on the UNC Asheville campus.
“We actually started planning this event as
fundraiser last semester,” said Paul Moerner, UNC Asheville senior and
Theta Chi chapter president. “When Hurricane Katrina hit, we knew we
wanted to hold the fundraiser right away to benefit the victims this
disaster.”
Donations from the community will be accepted. To
contribute make a check payable to the American Red Cross and sent it
to: UNC Asheville Greek Life, c/o Meg Dutnell, One University Heights,
CPO 1200, Asheville, NC 28804-8501.
