UNC Asheville Hosts National Symphony Orchestra Chamber Concert March 16
Couldn’t make it to the Kennedy Center this year for a National Symphony Orchestra concert? Come to UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium to see their string quartet play. UNC Asheville will host one of the National Symphony Orchestra chamber ensembles at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The string quartet of the National Symphony Orchestra will perform an hour-and-a-half-long concert featuring works by Franz Josef Haydn, Antonin Dvorak and Franz Schubert. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for children ages 12 and younger and groups of five or more. Now approaching its 75th season, the National Symphony, led by Leonard Slatkin, music director, is recognized as one of today’s finest orchestras. The National Symphony Orchestra regularly participates in significant events, including performances for state occasions, presidential inaugurations and performances for heads of state. The orchestra numbers 100 musicians and presents some 175 concerts each year, which include a classical series, pops concerts, and an extensive educational and outreach program. North Carolina is the site of the National Symphony Orchestra’s 2005 American Residency. From March 8-19, members of the orchestra will participate in some 150 educational and performance activities throughout the state. The 2005 American Residency is sponsored by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts through a grant from the United States Department of Education with assistance from the North Carolina Arts Council.
