UNC Asheville Receives Award from Association of Workforce Professionals

UNC Asheville was presented the Group Citation Award by the North Carolina Association of Workforce Professionals at the organization’s annual meeting held last week in Asheville.

The University was honored for establishing an endowed scholarship in memory of Letcher Beatty, class of ’75. Last year, Beatty was shot and killed by a client while working at the Hendersonville Employment Security Commission. Beatty’s friends, family and colleagues funded the endowed scholarship with more than $15,000. Recipients of this UNC Asheville scholarship must be residents of Henderson or Buncombe County and preference is given to students with financial need. The first scholarship was awarded last fall.
