UNC Asheville’s Music Department will continue its spring concert season with three performances in March. A special highlight is a free lunchtime concert by the U.S. Air Force’s Celtic music ensemble, Heritage Aire. Concerts will be held in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.
The UNC Asheville Concert Band and UNC Asheville String Ensemble will perform instrumental music under the direction of Jacqueline Mattingly at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20. The program will include selections by Hovhaness, Bishop, Holsinger, Bennett and Nelson. Admission is $5.
At 12:20 p.m. Monday, March 21, UNC Asheville will host a free performance by Heritage Aire, the U.S. Air Force’s Celtic music ensemble. As the newest ensemble within the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band, the group blends contemporary music with traditional Celtic music. Under the direction of Master Sgt. David Boone, members perform on traditional instruments, including the Irish flute, tin whistles, Scottish small pipes and bodhran. They also employ modern instruments such as the acoustic guitar and oboe to achieve their unique sound.
UNC Asheville’s Percussion will be in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31. The group will perform percussion works under the direction of Byron Hedgepeth. Admission is $5.
