Family Business Forum to Present Talk on "Business Continuity and Family Harmony"UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum will host a talk on “Business Continuity and Family Harmony” from 8:15 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the Vanderbilt Room of the Inn at Biltmore Estate. Wayne Rivers and Fred Hathaway, associates of The Family Business Institute in Raleigh, will give a talk covering a family business case study involving entrepreneurs Thom and Sophie Penmaen. Conflict, control, succession and risk of accumulated wealth will be discussed. Rivers is president and co-founder of The Family Business Institute. He has authored two books on the subject of family business, “Prescriptions for a Healthy Family Business” and “You Don’t Have to Die to Win: Success and Succession for Family Businesses.” He has appeared on the CNBC program “American Family Business,” and hosts a program on closely held business issues on the VoiceAmerica online business channel. Hathaway is vice president of business development of The Family Business Institute. He has developed relational sales and marketing skills in consumer goods manufacturing, direct marketing and consulting businesses. He is the author of “Building Up When Business is Down,” and has served as columnist of “The Commercial Lending Review” for the American Banking Association. Hathaway previously worked as state director for Crown Financial Ministries, the largest financial and business ministry in the world. Registration is required.
