UNC Asheville's Family Business Forum to Present Talk on "The Purpose Driven Family Business"

UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum will host a talk on “The Purpose Driven Family Business- Planning for the Future of Your Business” from 8 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Chestnut Ridge Room of UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Jennifer Pendergast, adjunct professor in Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and The Family Business Consulting Group associate, will give a talk covering practical strategic planning in a family business.

Discussion topics include family missions, visions and values, as well as the “parallel planning process” of ownership vision and the family business. Members attending the forum will receive a copy of the book “Strategic Planning for the Family Business: Parallel Planning to Unify the Family and the Business,” by John Ward and Randy Carlock.

Pendergast specializes in strategic planning, family business governance and business plan writing. An experienced management consultant, Pendergast has an extensive background in many strategic challenges faced by family firms and serves a broad range of clients in both for-profit and non-profit arenas. Her research on corporate governance and top management leadership issues has been published in a number of academic journals, including European Management Journal and Strategic Management Journal.
