UNC Asheville's Family Business Forum to Host Talk
by L.L. Bean Executives
UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum will host a
talk by the L.L. Bean Company at the Inn on Biltmore Estate from 11:45
a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Bob Peixotto, chief
operations officer, and Sarah Cox, senior manager of organizational
development, will give a talk on “Evolving Company Culture in a Family
Owned Business: Balancing Continuity and Change.”
Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. followed by a
welcome by UNC Asheville Chancellor James H. Mullen and lunch. The
presentation by Peixotto and Cox will begin at 1 p.m.
The L.L. Bean executives will discuss how the
values spawned from the company’s founding in 1912 evolved to thrive in
a more complex, competitive and informational atmosphere. They will also
discuss L.L. Bean’s transition from a business with family-dominated
leadership positions to a company that offers top positions outside the
family. L.L. Bean began as a one-man direct mail-order business and grew
to a worldwide outfitting business with over 4,000 employees and annual
sales of $1.2 billion.
Registration is required. The program is open to
forum members and their guests. A limited number of seats are available
for family business owners interested in membership. For more
