UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum will host a day-long workshop from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, in the Mountain Suites of UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union. Four classes and a buffet lunch will be offered. Family Business Forum sponsors Colton Groome & Company, Dixon Hughes PLLC, First Citizens Bank and McQuire Wood & Bissette PA will lead classes on a variety of topics involved in operating a family business.

Representatives from Colton Groome & Company will give a talk entitled “Human Capital- Your Most Important Asset: The Art of Attracting, Retaining and Rewarding Your Management Team.” George Groome, John Roegner, Keitha Sherrill and Tate Groome will review strategies in attaining and maintaining a successful management team. They will present a variety of executive benefits and how to plan, execute and administer an effective and comprehensive program.

Gary Mathes and Susan Thomas McMinn, of Dixon Hughes PLLC, will give a talk on “Fraud in the Family Business- Strategies for Recognition, Prevention and Litigation.” Attendees will gain insight into fraudulent business practices and protection measures. The science of computer forensics, including the type of information that can be recovered and used to help with legal issues, will be discussed during the seminar.

Gregory S. Neal, a portfolio strategist with the Capital Management Group of First Citizens Bank, will explain four little-known business strategies that can positively or negatively impact wealth generated from a family business. Using an interactive, multimedia presentation, “Little Known Ways to Enhance Your Investment Strategy” is designed to enlighten investors on how to gain more from any investment program.

Grant B. Osborne and Rendi Mann-Stadt will represent McGuire, Wood & Bissette in their talk on “Preventing and Responding to Claims of Sexual Harassment: An Employer’s Guide to Risk Management and Damage Control.” The presentation will help employers understand what constitutes sexual harassment and will provide strategies to prevent and respond to claims of sexual harassment.
