UNC Asheville's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for KidsGifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore world cultures, learn dog obedience training, try their hand at rocket science and much more at UNC Asheville's 19th annual Super Saturday Program beginning September 25. The program has helped more than 12,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on learning on the UNC Asheville campus. Some 33 unique courses are open for registration. Up and coming explorers and scientists can explore the universe, study the natural world and learn about life in ancient Egypt. Young artists can build pottery, bring puppets to life and develop painting and drawing skills. Students also can delve into technology-based classes such as multimedia presentations and Web-page design. Several UNCA faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators and other professionals. Super Saturday courses meet 9 a.m.-noon for six Saturdays between September 25 and November 6. There will be no classes on October 16. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $65 for each course. Deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 17. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available; the scholarship deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 7.
