UNCA to Hold Third Annual Spring Symposium on Undergraduate Research
and Creativity
More than 130 UNC Asheville students will present original research and works in the performing and fine arts at the university's third annual Spring Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creativity from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in various locations across campus. This campuswide event serves as an annual showcase of student work. The symposium, including the poster session in Karpen Hall lobby, is free and open to the public.
"The day will be devoted to outstanding juniors and seniors presenting the results of their research or the results of their creativity in the fine arts," said Linda Nelms, UNCA Undergraduate Research Program director. "All of the students have done work that is unique and relevant to their studies."
These projects represent a wide range of topics, including arsenic contamination of well water; turntable technology; NAFTA; biotechnology; and original poetry. A complete listing of the projects is available
online.
The symposium is part of UNCA's Undergraduate Research Program. The program aims to provide students with a wide variety of research, scholarly and creative opportunities that support and supplement other educational activities. It was listed among 39 "Programs to Look For" in the 2004 edition of U.S. News & World Report annual college rankings. An innovator in undergraduate research, UNCA founded the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in 1986 to promote faculty-student collaborations in all disciplines.
