Two UNC Asheville Staff Members Named to New PostsTwo key staff members at UNC Asheville have recently been named to new positions at the University. Kevan Frazier, director of the Highsmith University Union, has been named interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni. Frazier, who is a UNC Asheville graduate and holds a Ph.D. in history from West Virginia University, has worked in several academic and student life roles since joining the University staff in 1997. "Most recently, Kevan has overseen construction and programming of one of the most important buildings in UNC Asheville history, the Highsmith University Union," said UNC Asheville Chancellor Jim Mullen. "Now that this has been successfully accomplished, we have asked Kevan to bring his talent, imagination and extraordinary skills to Alumni Relations and its efforts in ensuring a lifetime relationship of mutual benefit between the University and the students who attend it. We believe he will be very effective in his new role." Frazier's efforts will build on the good work of Mary Chalakes, who joined UNC Asheville in 1994 as the University's first Director of Alumni Relations, said William Massey, UNC Asheville Vice Chancellor for Alumni & Development. Chakales has been named interim Coordinator of Student Affairs Events and Integrative Learning Initiatives. "UNC Asheville has launched an ambitious and innovative new program this fall, Integrative Liberal Studies, and Mary's talents will play an important part in the transformation of co-curricular life that is now under way on our campus," said Mark Padilla, UNC Asheville Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. The appointments are effective September 7, 2004. Media Contact:
