UNCA Music Department Continues Spring Concert SeasonUNC Asheville's Music Department will continue its spring concert season with four performances in April. Concerts are open to the public. The UNCA Percussion Ensemble will perform under the direction of Bryon Hedgepeth at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Concert highlights will include works by Steve Reich, Alan Hovhaness, Lou Harrison and Carlos Chavez. Guest artist Kate Steinbeck will be featured on flute and ocarina. Admission is $5. The UNCA Jazz Combos will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Under the direction of Tom Coppola, Tim Haden, David Wilken and Rich Wiley, each combo will perform a selection of jazz standards and original music. Admission is $5. An electronic music concert will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Hall room 018. The performance will feature original compositions by UNCA students. Admission is free. The UNCA Community Jazz Band will perform its 20th Annual Spring Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The 18-piece Big Band is composed of UNCA students and community musicians. The concert will showcase a variety of musical styles, including arrangements of "How High the Moon," "Come Rain or Come Shine" and "Our Love is Here to Stay." Admission is $5. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, the UNCA Jazz Ensemble will present an evening of original big band jazz music in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Under the direction of David Wilken, the group will perform compositions and arrangements by UNCA students and faculty. Admission is $5.
