UNCA to Host Lecture on the Archeology of Byzantine Greece and Sicily

Archeologist Kostis Kourelis will present a lecture on "The Archeology of Byzantine Greece and Sicily" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center. The talk will consider the emerging field of settlement archeology during the Byzantine period in Greece and Sicily. The event is free and open to the public.

Kourelis, an assistant professor in the art department and Architecture School at Clemson University, has conducted several years of survey work in Greece and excavated in Sicily with Stanford University. He holds a doctorate in Mediterranean Archeology from the University of Pennsylvania.

The talk is co-sponsored by UNCA's Classics Department and the American Institute of Archeology.
