Painter Reni Gower to Jury UNCA's 37th Annual Student Art Exhibition

Veteran painter and printmaker Reni Gower will visit the UNC Asheville campus March 19-20 to give a public talk and jury UNCA’s 37th Annual Student Art Exhibition. The events are free and open to the public.

Gower will give an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, in UNCA’s Owen Hall room 250. She will discuss her large-scale, three-dimensional constructions which contain elements of pop, minimalism and abstract-expressionism.

The 37th Annual Student Art Exhibition opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, in UNCA’s University Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. More than 50 pieces of student art work will be on display. Exhibition awards and scholarship announcements will be made at about 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view through April 1.

Gower is an associate professor of painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her works are represented in various collections in the United States and abroad, including the Library of Congress Print Collection; Pleasant Company/Mattel Inc., the American embassies in Lima, Peru and Osaka, Japan, and the Federal Reserve Bank. She has been awarded two Ford Foundation Grants and a NEA/SECCA Southeastern Artist Fellowship.
