UNCA to Host Talk by Reginald Gibbons and Alan Shapiro

Respected poet-translators Reginald Gibbons and Alan Shapiro will discuss "Ancient Greek Tragedy in Our World," at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in UNCA's Laurel Forum, 139 Karpen Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Gibbons is an English professor at Northwestern University and is the translator of the Greek works "Bakkhai" and "Anitgone." Gibbons is also a poet, fiction writer and essayist. His books of poetry include "It's Time and Sparrow: New and Selected Poems."

Shapiro is a professor of English at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and is the translator of "The Ostereia." He serves as one of two general editors for the Oxford University Press "Greek Tragedy in New Translations" series. Shapiro is the author of a number of prize-winning volumes of poetry and prose, including "The Dead Alive and Busy," which won the 2001 Kinsley Tufts Award.
