UNCA Students Screen Film Projects

UNC Asheville’s Mass Communication Department will present a screening of student films at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The screening will feature six works by student filmmakers and will include non-fiction, comedy, drama and experimental works. The event is free and open to the public.

Student film producers are Jay Adkins, Tommy Greenwood, Daniel Judson, Metta Little, Ginger McKnight, Robert Ramirez and Patrick Squire.

Metta Little’s documentary, entitled "Jascha," examines the life and work of local pop sensation Jascha Ephraim. "The more I learned about this Asheville superstar the more enigmatic he became," said Little.

"The Ouroboros," an experimental film produced by Rob Ramirez, presents a natural history that focuses on the dynamic and chaotic properties of the cycles of the universe. According to Ramirez, "The process to make the movie resembled the same organic feedback processes that are the subject of the movie."

Tommy Greenwood’s dramatic piece, "Faux Money," explores what can happen when a debt to a bookie goes bad. "This has been a great experience, creating a movie from scratch and seeing it turn out as well as it did," said Greenwood.

Don Diefenbach, the course instructor for the Video Workshop, adds, "We have a great presentation this spring. The students have produced a body of work of sound technical quality spanning a wide range of issues and styles. It will be a enjoyable and thought-provoking screening."

For more information, call Diefenbach at 828/251-6731 or UNCA’s Mass Communication Department at 828/232-5027.
