Dr. Bart Ehrman

Religious scholar Bart Ehrman will discuss "Lost Christianities: The Battles for Scripture and the Faiths We Never Knew" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at UNCA’s Reuter Center. The talk will cover early Christian sectarian movements, including the Gnostics and the Jewish Christians, that did not survive the late ancient period. Ehrman’s talk is free and open to the public.

Ehrman holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary and currently serves as chair of the UNC Chapel Hill department of religious studies. His areas of expertise include the history of ancient Christianity, the historical Jesus and the Apostolic Fathers. Ehrman has appeared on A&E, the History Channel and CNN. He was recently interviewed on NPR’s Fresh Air about his latest book, "Lost Christianities." Ehrman is author of several other books, including "Lost Scriptures: Books That Did Not Become the Bible," "Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium" and "The New Testament and Other Christian Writings: A Reader."
