UNC Asheville Hosts Talk by Ceramic Artist Josh DeWeeseUNC Asheville will host a talk by renowned ceramic artist Josh DeWeese, at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, in UNC Asheville's Highsmith University Union Mountains Suite. DeWeese will present a slide lecture on his current work and the history of the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. The event is free and open to the public. DeWeese is the resident director of the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, Mont. He studied ceramics at Montana State University and received his B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute and his master's degree from the New York City State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. DeWeese's ceramic works have been shown at exhibitions around the country and he has won numerous awards for his work. "I am interested in how pots can be used everyday to bring art into our lives, enhancing our experience with food, adorning our homes and providing a necessary ritual to nourish our soul and mind as well as our bodies," said DeWeese. "I try to make pottery which is successful in several ways; comfortable to use, enjoyable to look at and interesting to think about." The presentation is sponsored by UNC Asheville's Art Department and the new Craft Studies Program. For more information, call the UNC Asheville Art Department at 828/251-6559. Media Contacts:
