UNC Asheville to Host Talk on "The Truth Behind the Da Vinci Code"
Dan Brown’s sensation, "The Da Vinci Code," remains on the New York Times bestseller list more than a year after it was published. Now readers can get a historical perspective on the book and early Christianity, thanks to an upcoming talk at UNC Asheville by religious scholar Bart Ehrman. Ehrman will give a talk based on his new book, "The Truth Behind the Da Vinci Code: A Historian Reveals What We Really Know About Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Constantine," at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Alumni Hall. A book signing will follow his talk. The event is free and open to the public. Ehrman holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary and currently serves as chair of the UNC Chapel Hill department of religious studies. His areas of expertise include the history of ancient Christianity, the historical Jesus and the Apostolic Fathers. Ehrman has appeared on A&E, the History Channel and CNN. He was interviewed last year on NPR’s Fresh Air about his book, "Lost Christianities." Ehrman is author of several other books, including "Lost Scriptures: Books That Did Not Become the Bible," "Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium" and "The New Testament and Other Christian Writings: A Reader."
