UNC Asheville Offers Continuing Education Classes in
Creative Writing
UNC Asheville will offer three continuing education creative writing
courses beginning in August. The five-week classes will meet on the UNC
Asheville campus. Cost is $65 per class. Classes are open to all
interested writers.
"Creating Unforgettable Characters" will be held from 7-9
p.m. Mondays beginning August 2. The class will assist writers in creating
strong characters through dialogue, plot and setting. Archetypical
personae will also be examined. Registration deadline for this course is
July 30.
"Creating Children’s Books" will be offered from 7-9 p.m.
Tuesdays beginning August 3. This course offers writing strategies for all
levels of children’s books, including picture books, easy readers,
chapter books and young adult novels. Students will focus on world choice
and structure. Registration deadline for this class is August 2.
"Initiation Into the Writing Life" will be held from 7-9 p.m.
Thursdays beginning August 5. In this course, budding fiction writers will
use practical techniques to build characters, plots and settings. Students
will also work on building their own writing style. Registration deadline
for this course is August 4.
Marshall native Bobbie Pell will instruct all classes. Pell holds a
master's degree in English and composition from Western Carolina
University and is a professional storyteller.
