UNCA to Host Talk on Contemporary RacismRace relations expert Eduardo Bonilla-Silva will discuss "Racism without Racists: Killing Me Softly with Color Blindness" at 4 p.m. Monday, March 1, at UNC Asheville’s Owen Conference Center. His talk will examine the nature of racial inequality in the United States. The event is free and open to the public. Bonilla-Silva is an associate professor of sociology at Texas A&M University. He is the author of "White Supremacy and Racism in the Post Civil Rights Era" and "Racism without Racists: Color Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in America." Bonilla-Silva was featured in the PBS television series "Race: The Power of an Illusion." The talk is sponsored by UNCA’s Sociology Department, Africana Studies Program, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Multicultural Student Programs and the offices of the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Social Sciences.
