UNCA Writers at Home Series Continues with Readings by
Jan Bailey and Laura Swenson
UNC Asheville's Writers at Home Series continues with readings by Jan
Bailey and Laura Swenson at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at Malaprop's
Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St. Writers at Home is part of the Great
Smokies Writing Program. The event is free and open to the public.
Bailey is the author of three collections of poetry, including
"Midnight in the Guestroom," which was published this year. She
is chair of the creative writing department at the South Carolina
Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and is a South Carolina Arts
Commission Poetry Fellow. Bailey was awarded the 2004 Elinor Benedict
Poetry Prize from Passages North Magazine and the Sue Saniel Elkind Poetry
Prize from Kalliope Magazine.
Swenson, an instructor in UNCA's Literature and Language Department, is
a graduate of Ohio State University where she earned a master of fine arts
degree in fiction and creative non-fiction. Her story "Crazy"
was included in the 2002 O’Henry Award Short List. Swenson is currently
at work on a novel and a short story collection.
