UNC Asheville 2004-05 Writers at Home Series Kicks Off with Readings by Keith Flynn and Mindy FriddleUNC Asheville's 2004-05 Writers at Home Series kicks off with readings by Keith Flynn and Mindy Friddle at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program. The event is free and open to the public. Flynn has published three collections of poetry: "The Talking Drum," "The Book of Monsters" and "The Lost Sea." His poetry has appeared in many journals and anthologies, including "The Colorado Review," "The Cuirt Journal (Ireland)," "Word and Witness: 100 Years of NC Poetry" and "The Southern Poetry Review." Flynn was awarded the Sandburg Prize for poetry, the ASCAP Emerging Songwriter Prize, the Paumanok Poetry Award and numerous Pushcart nominations. He is the founder and managing editor of "The Asheville Poetry Review." Friddle's debut novel, "The Garden Angel," was published in July by St. Martin's Press. She is a winner of the South Carolina Fiction Project, the Piccolo Spoleto Fiction Open and the South Carolina Academy of Author's Fellowship Contest. A former reporter for several newspapers, she received her bachelor’s degree from Furman University and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina.
