UNC Asheville Writers at Home Series Concludes with Readings by Tommy Hays and Sam HodgesUNC Asheville's Writers at Home Series concludes with readings by Tommy Hays and Sam Hodges at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program. The event is free and open to the public. Hays is the author of two novels, "Sam's Crossing" and "In the Family Way," which was a selection for the Book-of-the-Month Club and received the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award. His third novel, "The Pleasure Was Mine," is a forthcoming release from St. Martin's Press. Hays is the executive director of the Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC Asheville and is the director of creative writing for the Academy at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Hodges, a graduate of the master of fine arts program for writers at Warren Wilson College, is the book editor for the Charlotte Observer. He is the author of the novel "B-Four" and co-editor of "Letters to Amanda," a collection of Civil War letters.
